I thought I would share a healthy recipe that I think looks soooo good AND is healthy!!! Can’t beat that! This recipe is from www.cookinglight.com
Korean Chicken Lettuce Wraps
1. Combine first 6 ingredients in a large zip-top plastic bag. Place 2 tablespoons soy sauce mixture in a small bowl; set aside. Add chicken slices to remaining soy sauce mixture in bag; seal. Refrigerate 2 hours.
2. Cook rice according to package directions.
3. Remove chicken from bag; discard marinade. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add oil to pan; swirl to coat. Add chicken; cook 2 minutes on each side or until done. Sprinkle sesame seeds over chicken. Place 3 tablespoons rice in each lettuce leaf; top each lettuce leaf with 1/3 cup chicken mixture, 2 cucumber slices, and about 1 1/2 teaspoons green onions. Serve with reserved 2 tablespoons soy sauce mixture.
2015 Hair Goals!!!
Happy New Year Beauties!!!!! I hope that everyone had a happy and wonderful holiday season, now back to real life. I have been really not posting very much at all. Partially due to some health issues I have dealt with over these past few months and also because sometimes I’m lazy!!!! Just keepin’ it real! I have made a promise to myself to really have command over my blog, and I will go into more detail about that in another post.
On to the task at hand……
I have made some goals for myself, not resolutions! I feel like resolutions create such pressure and I’m not about that life! I needed to make some realistic GOALS that I would be able to reach and that I can be proud of. I always want to make sure that what I’m posting is positive, helpful and hopefully encouraging to someone. So many of my curly girls know how important helpful info is when making hair changes or deciding to do something different I have made a few hair goals for this year that I wanted to share.
As you can see in the picture above there are several natural products, some that we actually eat, that also can be used on your hair! My first goal is to really try some DIY treatments this year. Mixing up some of your fave natural products can really lead to you getting to know your hair. I have only done a couple of 1/2 DYI deep conditioners, which is taking already made conditioner and adding to that, usually coconut or olive oil.
My next goal is to start experimenting with more grassroots companies! We all know that Mixed Chicks, Carol’s Daughter and Ouidad are going to pump out some off the chain products, but I want to try some products from Hydratherma Naturals, Camille Rose and Sheer Luxe Beauty. These are all grassroots companies who have awesome reviews and from what I hear, awesome products!!!! Looking forward to purchasing from these companies and reviewing products for ya’!
Attempt to try something other than a wash and go and pineapple!!!! I’m a super Plain Jane!
More goals this coming week!!! Thanks for reading!
Makeup 101: Moisturizing Your Skin
Good Morning Beauties! I have been so busy lately and totally neglected this blog, poo on me! However, I am back into the swing of things and have a lot of wonderful things to share with you. Besides being a freelance makeup artist, I am also a musician and show director at The School of Rock, yes that is a real school, the movie is actually based off of the school. Anyway, I am super busy and sometimes my skin suffers. So today I’m going to share some great moisturizers that I have used and currently using that I just love and believe are the best out there as far as drugstore brands. Click on the links under the pictures for access to the products!
Mary Kay is known for their wonderful skin care products and they do live up to what you expect. I remember being very young and my mother would always get my little sister and I Mary Kay skin sets for Christmas and I thought that was just off the chain!!! My momma used to hook us up!!! Anyway:) Mary Kay has in their skin care line the Extra Emollient Night Cream. This cream is wonderful to use at night but also if you have very dry skin. I use this after I have done a facial scrub at night just to protect my skin in case I might have cause some minor dryness. Now my mom suffers from a very dry t-zone, she has been using this for over 20 years and she has never sued anything else. My momma has beautiful skin, maybe one day she will let me post a pic of her gorgeous face! This product sells for $14.00.
Neutrogena is such a wonderful product, from the skin care all the way to their wonderful Moisture
Smooth Color Stick, they are just awesome. Now if you have acne prone, oily or sensitive skin this might be the moisturizer for you. Neutrogena products are great for those who have sensitive skin because they use mostly natural based products and this particular moisturizer contains SPF which you MUST make sure you incorporate into your skin care. Always try to look for skin products that contain sunscreen, it will just protect your skin from all of the elements and it does have some anti-aging qualities because of this. This product usually sells for around $9.99
This moisturizer is for those of you who might suffer from very sensitive skin and or consistent skin irritation. Cetaphil has an awesome reputation and I believe pride themselves in making sure those that have severe skin irritation have an option to what might seem a hopeless journey to healthy happy skin. This particular moisturizer is for all skin types, but remember it can be used on the most sensitive skin. This product sells for around $14.00.
Last but not least, my favorite!!!
During makeup application we tend to apply a moisturizer then a primer, big mistake! The moisturizer cancels out what the primers job is, the product below is two in one!
Skin MD is such a wonderful multi-tasker that every person in the word should use! I found out a bout Skin Md from a friend of mine who has beautiful skin and whose makeup always looks flawless, I asked her what moisturizer and primer she used and she said to me “I only use Skin MD” ! My response was what is that and where can I get it!? In Kansas where I live, unfortunately we do not carry it, so I have to order it online, but this stuff is legit! I have very high dollar primers and moisturizers and they get the backseat compared to this stuff! This sells online for $18.00 for a 60 day supply.
Thank you so much for your support and for reading! Tomorrow a huge haul and video!!!
Beauty Haul !!!
Hey Beauties!! So I was out this weekend shopping picking up things I needed and thought I would share them with you Some of these item are products that I ran out of and needed to repurchase.
The first and probably my favorite drugstore full coverage foundation is Revlon’s Colorstay Whipped Foundation in ” Natural Tan”. This foundation is a dead on match to my skin tone which is really hard to match. I’m mixed half white and half African-American and sometimes finding the right shade can be some work! I promise I’m not complaining, just telling it like it is!! This foundation has a super lite wonderful texture. The pay off is full coverage and it does last ALL DAY as long as you use a primer. This foundation does dry faster than a high-end foundation, so blend in a timely manner
This color is the truth!! I mean this purple is so perfect for me I just couldn’t leave this at the store, it needed to be in my collection. This purple is very orchidy (is that even a word??…lol) , and is very pigmented. This color looks like it would really create a great look just on its own, packed on the lid and then blended into the crease with a liner…So cute!!!
These are two of my favorite colors and I vowed this year to break out of my natural makeup box and try some more bold looks!!! I figured these would be a wonderful start! These are from a new line by NYX called Primal Colors. The colors featured here are Hot Red and Hot Yellow. The other colors in this line are bold and beautiful as well ! They have a blue-green and I think a purple color, I’ll eventually get those too
This is one of my absolute favorite mascaras and I will continue to buy it because it has an awesome brush and wonderful formula. This mascara provides some really beautiful length when you apply two coats to the top lashes. This brush is big and fluffy and really gets all of those eyelashes to add great volume and length. Get Up and Grow is a true to testament name for this mascara. It was only 6.99 and for that cost you are really getting something that is like a high-end product.
I saw this NYX Liquid Illuminator while I was at Ulta and because I’m currently experimenting with new forms of products I thought this would be something cool to try. So I used my ELF Cosmetics small stippling brush to apply this to my hand just to see the color and it is a pale pink pearl and would look really pretty just on the cheekbone or maybe even lightly brushed over your blush for a nice glow. This shade is in “Sunbeam”, I want to try the other color “Gleam” which is a golden peach pearl.
So my haul went great and I will have many more as I am also stocking up for my giveaway which will be announced soon…..
Isn’t that Random????

Ladies!!!! It seems like it has been so long since my last post!!! I moved into a new house about 2 weeks ago and It was WORK!!!! I’m still trying to figure out where all this stuff came from !!! Anyway, this new installment called ” Makeup 101″ will feature a makeup tip that will improve your beauty application, knowledge and confidence about makeup.
This weeks Makeup 101 lesson is about eye shadows that are perfect for blending out and perfecting your eye look. There are various shades that you can use based on what look you’re going for, but today we will primarily focus on brown toned shades. Brown, because it’s a neutral shade, will always be a wonderful blending shade. Now you have different tones, some warm and cool, some with red and yellow undertones, all of these can be used for different looks and effects.
The color I seem to go to a lot is ” Buck”, which is in the original Naked Palette. I think I really like browns that tend to have a red or warm undertone. I love love earth tones with red undertones, they just see so comforting and really can make your eyes look just beautiful!!! This is a total matte shade, and if you’re going for something really dramatic, press a matte black shadow all over your lid and blend with this buck…..So gorgeous
This color has those red undertones that I love so much! MAC Brownscript is a very popular shade used by makeup artists and beauty guru’s because of its versatility and staying power. This shade can be really buffed out into a very soft diffused look or used to create a warm deep crease definition.
If you can tell, this brown has some obvious yellow undertones, another warm shade. I usually use Soft Brown to further diffuse a look and make it look airbrushed. This color has really changed how I now do my makeup looks as far as really focusing on making my makeup look very diffused. By adding this shade and really blending well with a good blending brush, your colors should just fade into one another, that’s the goal!
So these two beauties are in the Lorac Pro Palette and this palette is a must have in your collection. This palette is everything!!!! If you’re starting your makeup collection, you need this. It has 8 matte shades and 8 shimmer shades. They are a perfect mix of what you need to start and these two shades really are the best for blending shades. Between the two, ” Sable” has the red undertones and ” Espresso” has more of a cooler tone to it. I use ” Espresso” a lot in my crease when I’m doing a look with golds or other shimmer earth tones.
Ladies, one of the most important things when blending shades is having the right kind of brushes and PRACTICE Both of these step are essential to perfecting your looks. A couple of brushes that work for me are the MAC 224, Sigma E38 and E40 are perfect! What you need to look for is a brush that is tapered and fluffy.
Isn’t That Random ???!!!
*So I’m pretty sure I have the flu….hope I’m better tomorrow
*Does anyone do meal planning? I love it !!!
*Can’t wait for the new season of American Horror Story….Im addicted !!!!!
*Still getting ideas together for my Summer Giveaway!!!!
Good Day Beauties !! I am full of ideas right now and want to share a lot of things I’ve been trying lately. I have been really trying different naturally curly products lately. My go to style right now is the Wash and Go. For those of you who are unaware of this style I’ll explain…
You co-wash (conditioner wash) your hair, and after your shower apply a leave in conditioner and oil and GO !!!! That’s it ! I love this style, I’m such a plain Jane that way. It’s very simple and can be perfect in any setting. I also love this style because I’m using very little product. This is a picture of today’s Wash and Go !
It provides medium to soft hold, I do not like crunchy hair ! I have 3 go to products that I’m using right now, Mixed Chicks Leave-In Conditioner, Eden BodyWorks Curl Defining Cream and Kinky-Curly Knot Today Leave In/Detangler. All of these products are $20.00 or under and are worth every penny. Now if you’re in the midst of the Natural Curl game , then you know that products can be hit and miss, saying that, these products work for me. I’m sharing my experience in hopes that they might work for you
Mixed Chicks Leave In is a slippery, non greasy type of product. It has great slip and really defines your curls. I love everything about this product and what it claims to do, except the smell. It’s really weird and I needs some fruit !! What makes it even worse for me is the price, $19.99. Not out of control, but I can pay less for a comparable product which ill talk about below. Bottom line this is a great product, just don’t be shocked by the price tag or the smell.
Kinky Curly Knot Today is my most used leave in and it smells beautiful ! It really has awesome slip and provides a very soft curl and bounce. This formula is not as slimy feeling as the Mixed Chicks Leave In, more of a water base. Now what I like about this is the price compared to Mixed Chicks, only 11.99 !!! Yes honey, more my speed. I love a good deal, and sometimes Target will have a larger size for the same price. Keep and eye out for that !
And last but not least, Eden BodyWorks Curl Defining Cream. This is the only fave that is not a leave in. I use this in the wash and go L.O.C. (leave in-oil-cream) method. I apply in sections and work through with my fingers. You can let this air dry or use a diffuser for less frizz and more volume. The cream shows up white in your hair so if you’re air drying, make sure you style your hair earlier in the day. I love this product line period, the are all great, but this curl defining cream really has a nice medium hold and honey it smells like coconut shea ! Very beautiful
Please try these, and if you have comment on how they worked for you. I would love to hear about your experience !

Good Day Beauties !!! Hope the New Year is treating you right so far ! So, let’s get into it.
Urban Decay has one of the best formulas for eyeshadow, not only that they really feature some awesome colors when they come out with a new palette. When I first saw this palette, I was really taken back by one color ” Shellshock”. Honey, it is bright and shining silver. As I continued to look at this palette, I saw some jewel tones, earth tones, really pretty pinks and I had to have it !!!
Shellshock is that silver on the top row, #3, so gorgeous. Anyway…. here are the swatches from the entire palette (l to r)
Smokeout (dark taupey-black satin), Lovesick (black matte w/iridescent micro-glitter), Shellshock (bright metallic silver), Coax (medium metallic pink w/golden iridescent micro-sparkle
X-Rated (baby pink satin), Prank (deep navy matte w/turquoise floating pearl), Madness (bright metallic blue shimmer w/blue micro-glitter), Strike (antique gold shimmer w/silver micro-glitter), Stash (deep olive green shimmer w/iridescent micro-sparkle), Poison (charcoal satin w/iridescent micro-sparkle)
Radar (metallic brown shimmer w/iridescent micro-glitter), Damaged (bright metallic emerald shimmer), Voodoo (metallic purple shimmer, Betrayal (bright purple satin w/blue shift), Derailed (medium metallic taupey-brown shimmer)
Dope (warm champagne satin), Toxic (metallic copper-pink shimmer w/tonal micro-glitter), Habit (light nude matte), Ambush (metallic brown satin) and Rewind (medium brown matte)
Wow, what list !!!!! I love this palette so much. Bottom line is this offers enough different types of colors for you to have a very basic classic look or have a super GLAM look I’m so happy that I bought this and if you want a palette that has everything, get this palette !!!
Here is a look I did using this palette
This is Shellshock on the lid, Rewind in the crease, Brownscript by MAC and Lorac Pro Palette Cream as a brow highlight.
The only thing I don’t like about this palette is that its kind of bulky, but the colors and the AWESOME color payoff make up for that.
Sneak Peak…….next post, a review of the beautiful palette also by Urban Decay, Naked 3

Follow Me !!!!!
How wonderful is this time of year ?? This is my favorite holiday, have I said that already ?? lol Anyway…. For five years now, every Christmas , I make a very special breakfast for two. Usually a big breakfast with the works…bacon, sausage, pancakes, hash, eggs and a gorgeous cocktail. This year I wanted to share some ideas with you for a big breakfast and a more healthy style breakfast.
Okay ladies (and gents…), these look ridiculous, but this is happening Christmas morning !! My husband is the most wonderful man in the world, and I totally spoil him, especially on this day. I guess you could say I’m old-fashioned that way, and I know some of you are too !! I vividly remember my Nana (grandmother) getting up early on Christmas morning and making this beautiful spread for all of her children and grandchildren and for the man of the house, my Paw Paw (grandfather). The way food and fellowship join together in the kitchen is magical
I love a good refreshing cocktail during the holidays. Besides how much fun you have after indulging, it can be a great recipe to share with the fam ! Relax and enjoy the Christmas spirit !
I’m also going to make scrambled eggs with this breakfast and will be using maple syrup from The Fresh Market, any pure maple syrup will do.
Now for a healthier way of doing things…
This looks so bomb!!!! I’m going to make this the day after Christmas to take a break and get ready to get back on track for the new year. I am determined to get my body and my health back and be ready to try to have a baby by 2016. This is a goal that is attainable and I will work my buns off to get the reward !!!
If you love grits, honey you will love this ! This recipe calls for chicken andouille sausage, but you can also use turkey sausage. I think you could even add some type of vegetable like mushrooms and really morph this dish.
So as I’m typing this blog tonight with just 4 days until Christmas and my dream comes true…..
Anyway… So this year try a new special breakfast for you and yours. These recipes are also family friendly and of course can be increased for a larger crowd of hungry folks.
Isn’t That Random????
*Still have a couple of presents and wrapping paper to buy
*That fudge…Lord have mercy…
*Tomorrow swatches and look from Urban Decay Vice 2 Palette !!! So hype about this post, the colors in this palette are more than life !
Happy Holidays Beauties !!! Christmas is 11 days away and there is still time to get some really cool beauty gifts for your favorite makeup fanatic. So yesterday, I decided to head to Ulta to get a few things and I was torn between a couple of palettes I really want. My ultimate decision always comes down to range of colors and textures. The Too Faced Joy to the Girls Palette has a strange mix of colors which is perfect for the holidays because there are so many shades represented this time of year.
1st Row (L to R)
Cookie Dough (matte pinkish brown), Sugar Plum (purple with green and gold sparkle), Powdered Sugar (matte light pink ), Chestnut (cocoa pearl), Spike the Punch ( light peach with silver sparkle)
2nd Row ( L to R)
Cheers ! (champagne shimmer), Mulberry ( matte deep mauve), Too-Too (pink shimmer), Twinkle ( metallic antique gold), Chimney (pearl slate grey)
3rd Row (L to R)
Coal (matte black), Prancer (shimmer copper gold), Snow Angel (matte cream), Yule Log (sparkle plum brow) , Joy ( pearl light blue)
On the inside of the palette there is a fold out with three different looks, which can be really helpful for someone trying to figure out hoe to use the colors in this palette. Too Faced is always good with lending a hand in a fabulous #beatface
This is such a Joy…hehehe..
This palette is wonderful in more ways than one. It is perfect for a holiday gift because it has some shades that are for the girl who is not quite comfortable with a dark smoky eye, but can handle a light brown one It also has colors for the girl who goes all out on an eye look and is not afraid to use some really bold colors. It is awesome for a starter palette because of the many variations of fabulous hues.
Too Faced is always gonna give you the gusto when it comes to bold colors and combinations. I talk about this all the time, but the best palette has the perfect mix of matte, shimmer and sparkly shades. Its makes it so much fun to play around, your makeup comfort zone will be annihilated !!!!!
A few more thangs……
I get the monthly Maven Box from Julep Cosmetics for $20.00/month that comes with two nail shades and a beauty product. I’m not featuring the beauty product that comes with it . I’m talking about these because these colors are so Christmas !!!! On the left a beautiful gold sparkle called “Andrea” that has turquoise, plum, gold and pink sparkle in it. This polish can be worn alone on the tips of nails over another color or on top of another color. It’s really beautiful ! On the right is the shade ” Cara” and it is a sassy dark pink with this beautiful silver pearl undertone, It’s really beautiful and the more coats you use , the deeper the color.
I love the palette, the nail polish and CHRISTMAS !!!!
Isn’t That Random ????
*Christmas is 11 days away!!!!!!
*Pretty sure we are having Cornish Hens tomorrow. I love those little birds…..
* Anyone else addicted to the cliché’ Christmas movies !!!! I love them all !!!!!
Ladies, these palettes are the business !!!!! Stila In the Garden and Stila In the Light are the latest additions to my makeup collection. I decided I wanted these two because of the mix of colors. They have others in this line, but I loved the jewel tones and earth tones.
Okay so the breakdown……
Top Row (l t0 r)-
Chinois- matte creamy white, Breeze- shimmer beige, Bark- shimmer taupe, Freesia- shimmer violet-blue and Rosette- metallic pink violet
Bottom Row (l to r)
Nectar- matte creamy beige, Honey- metallic bronze gold, Sage- shimmer translucent green, Moss- dark olive-green with shimmer , Juniper deep shimmer forest green
This palette is so gorgeous in so many ways. On the top right you have some really beautiful jewel tones that might make you think of beautiful spring flowers, hence In the Garden…. Then around those colors are these beautiful colors that we see everyday in nature. All of these colors are a must and because of the array, you can really do so many things. I think it’s always good in a palette to have some beautiful neutrals and some bold colors to take a classic look to the next level. The look I did with this palette was using Freesia on the lid and blending Rosette into the crease and diffusing with a fluffy brush. It was very simple and elegant. My favorite colors in this palette are Freesia, Sage, Moss and Juniper. I can’t wait to create some really jazzy looks
Alright now !!!! Ready for In the Light ???
Top Row ( L to R)
Bare- matte ivory, Kitten- champagne simmer, Bliss- matte beige pink, Sunset- shimmer canyon pink, Sandstone- matte light coco
Bottom Row ( L to R)
Bubbly- pale gold shimmer, Gilded Gold- golden brown with shimmer, Luster- dark aubergine with gold shimmer, Night Sky- blue with shimmer, Ebony- black
A girl can never have enough natural tones palettes !! I have about 10 and I feel like that’s just the beginning lol !!! I love earth tones for any occasion, they are essential to a makeup collection. Stila had really hit this one out of the park. I don’t have pictures of a look yet, probably will do a video tutorial soon with this palette. What colors I love the most are Night Sky, Sunset and Sandstone, I think these colors are really beautiful and can be used with other palettes.
Bottom line these two palettes have a wonderful mix of colors to have soooo much fun with. The textures of the shadows are great however some of the colors do have slight fall out and the In the Garden palette does not have a mirror. I really like to use the mirrors in the palette sometimes when I’m trying to execute a certain amount of detail.
Isn’t That Random ???!!!!
* Every year I make fudge for Christmas, I think its happening sooner than that !!!!
* We had our first taste of ice here in the Plains today…. it was slick, but I wanna see some snow for Xmas !!!!
